Seedlings at 4 Weeks to Last Frost!
Well, I think I’m happy with the progress my little babies have made so far! I have a lovely new greenhouse and a sunny hot window for it to sit in. They get great sun the morning!
Now that the babies have sprouted nicely I have started to worry about the little guys.
1. Will they get enough sun before I can plant them outside, or will they get spindly and stringy? So many sites say I should have fluorescents on the seedlings for 14-16 hours a day for them to be strong, so I put a table lamp with a full spectrum “energy saving” bulb on them…I hope it’s enough….
2. Will they survive the transfer to a bigger pot? I have just moved my asparagus to 4″ pots since the roots were starting to peek out through the bottom of their containers…I hope I didn’t wreck them by moving them! Same with the peppers…they’re starting to look stronger now that they’ve gotten used to their new pots and I’m putting light on them every night.
3. Am I letting them get too crowded? The basil and the celery especially…does one celery seed REALLY make one celery plant?!?! They started so small! I can’t seem to find the answer, but I’ll happily give one its own little pot if that’s true!
I hear starting seeds can be compared to parenting. You can worry about whether you’re doing the right thing, or you can do your best and trust they’ll do their best. Either way they’re going to do their thing.
