Running in the Rain
The hubby asked me last night if I was going to actually go running in the rain…OF COURSE! Unless it’s raining sideways you can bet I’m not going to miss a training run this close to the half! What I am missing is rain gear. I pulled out a cheap yellow child’s poncho that I had reserved for emergency, put it on, scared the crap out of the cats, then tore the chin. It was definitely not worth the ridiculousness, I’d rather be soaked. My only other “anti-drenching” option was my lululemon winter run coat. Well, I came home just as soaked with sweat as I would have been with rain, and probably a fair bit warmer than I needed to be too.
After a few minutes of figuring out my focus in the rain and the water in my shoes started to warm up, I ran a 6k that will go down in the history books for me. I felt stronger, calmer, and more consistent than I’ve ever been. I knew it was only 6k (who ever thought I would be saying ONLY 6k??) so I went ahead and pushed my pace a tiny bit. I didn’t do any extra miles, although I really wanted to! The smell of rain kept me in the moment as it changed along the path from lawns to crops to forests. The rain was as steady as I felt, and I let it wash away any memory of rehabilitating my ankle.
